Dr. Craig Smith Receives Distinguished Service Award
The award recognizes an alumnus who has shown leadership in the service of others. Dr. Smith is only the second recipient to ever be recognized by the John Jones Surgical Society for this honor.

About The Fellowship
The winner receives a grant of $6,000.00 to conduct research, and is named the John Jones Fellow for 2022-2023. The fellow presents research results at the Annual Meeting of the John Jones Surgical Society in early spring, 2023.

Winner – John Jones Fellowship 2021-2022
William “Clinton” Erwin, MD becomes the 8th John Jones Fellow
Dr. Erwin is currently a third year resident in the Integrated Cardiothoracic Surgery Program, in the Department of Surgery at NewYork Presbyterian, Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Mentor: Giovanni Ferrari, PhD, Associate Professor of Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University. Scientific Director of the Cardiothoracic Research Program at Columbia University, and leading Principal Investigator of the Columbia Biobank for Translational Science (CBTS), in the Department of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
