Resources for Learning and Studying

Required Reading – Your main source for your reading should be:

  • Essentials of General Surgery by Peter F. Lawrence, Fifth Edition
This will be loaned to you during your rotation
  • National Medical Series (NMS) Surgery Casebook by Bruce E. Jarrell
Very helpful for studying for the CSE
  • Uptodate.com – a standard resource for all medical professionals
  • Scientific American Surgery
    • This is a higher level surgery text used commonly by residents; it is more detailed and technical than Essentials but also more thorough
    • It is available via the StatRef! link in the CUMC library website
    • It is in PDF format – great for on-the-go study
