Columbia’s Thoracic Surgery Section, from the Division of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, is dedicated to leading the field of lung and chest surgery through top-quality clinical care, academic excellence, and pioneering research.

Patient Care

Columbia’s thoracic surgery team offers patients an extensive list of specialized programs and services for a variety of thoracic conditions. This includes dedicated centers for lung cancer care, emphysema care, women’s lung issues, diaphragm disease, esophageal disease, and more. We also offer patients a range of state-of-the-art surgical procedures, including minimally invasive techniques, video-assisted surgery, and full lung transplantations. Our lung transplant program is the largest in the northeastern U.S., and our survival rate is significantly higher than the national average.
