Roshni Rao, MD, FACS, New Chief of the Breast Surgery Program

Roshni Rao, MD, FACS has been appointed Chief of the Breast Surgery program at NYP/Columbia University Medical Center and Associate Professor of Surgery.

Dr. Rao joins us October 3, 2017 from the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. While at UTSW, she was Director of the George N. Peters Center for Breast Surgery and the hospitals Chief of Staff from 2013-2015. Her clinical interests include early stage breast cancer, ethnic disparities in breast cancer, innovative localization techniques, patient engagement with healthcare technology, and tumescent mastectomy. She has published investigator-initiated studies on the impact of mitochondrial DNA on the risk of triple negative breast cancer as well as exercise interventions performed during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Dr. Rao graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency at Baystate Medical Center, the Western Campus of Tufts University in Springfield Mass. She completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson in Houston, TX in 2005 and was thereafter recruited to join the faculty of UT Southwestern.
